The accumulated experience of the company goes back to 1980s and the birth of the landfill gas management industry in the UK. Continuous investment in development together with in–house expertise and production facilities, have resulted in a range of advanced modular equipment for the management of landfill gas, as well as computer aided design and associated systems. Our equipment is designed and built to a consistently high quality standard, providing a technology lead to the industry. As a result of our extensive experience, we have developed a highly accurate evaluation model to assess the potential for recovery and capture of methane gas.
Through partnership with our associated company ENER-G Natural Power (www.energ.co.uk ) and the ENER-G Group Plc, Biogas Technology Ltd has provided the infrastructure and engineering support to projects producing in excess of 90MW of renewable energy from landfill gas within the UK and throughout Europe.
Methane (CH4) is recognized as a potent contributor (21 times more harmful for the environment than carbon dioxide (CO2)) to the global green house gas effect and global warming. Methane is produced by a variety of causes; anaerobic decomposition of waste in landfill sites; anaerobic digestion of waste products by bacteria, and as a by-product of coal mining processes.
Under the various Climate Mitigation schemes, such as the Kyoto Protocol or the Voluntary Emissions Reduction Market, Biogas Technology Ltd is able to provide the high quality engineering and technical skills required to successfully capture, recover, process, measure and utilise landfill gas, coal mine methane and methane arising from anaerobic digestion, all of which can contribute to the world-wide efforts to reduce global warming.
The mechanisms of Climate Change Mitigation schemes have enabled the development of emission reduction projects, and the consequential creation of Carbon Credits which can be sold on emerging variety of Emissions Reduction markets.

For the purpose of developing landfill gas projects under the Kyoto Protocol, Biogas Technology Ltd has formed a strategic partnership with Ecosecurities (www.ecosecurities.com) - Ecomethane (www.ecomethane.com).
This partnership has resulted in 3 registered and operating CDM Landfill gas projects: Marca, Brazil; Aguascalientes and Ecatepec in Mexico; 7 under construction and in the process of registration: Tultitlan and Durango, Mexico; Oblogo, Ghana; El Panul, Chile; Ancon, Peru; Kunming and Nanning in China; several other contracts signed, waiting to start the construction and registration process and a long pipeline of projects in negotiation.
Biogas Technology is currently one of the largest CDM Landfill gas project developers. We are proud to have been issued the first CERs (Certified Emissions Reductions – carbon credits) from a landfill gas project, Aguascalientes in Mexico.
